The
BacardiÒ
Rum Billfish Tournament is the opening tournament of the
Bahamas Billfish season. It
is a wonderful opportunity to get back in “the chair”
after the winter hiatus and put the boat and crew through
their paces for the upcoming season.
The
BacardiÒ
has consistently ranked amongst the ten best fishing
tournaments in the world.
It is a full fledged fishing tournament, with four days
of fishing and a convenient lay day which may be utilized to
fly in new anglers. The
entry fee covers attendance at five fabulous cocktail parties
plus a gala Welcome dinner and a superb Awards dinner. The
tournament is known for its famous morning and afternoon
“give-away” items, the unequaled Billfish Foundation
Benefit raffle and a friendly, caring, hard-working tournament
committee. Add to
this the genuine hospitality of the Port Lucaya Marina staff
and you can understand why this is the one event that you do
not want to miss.
The
BacardiÒ
Rum Billfish tournament is heavily skewed towards Billfishing
and there is a lot of emphasis on the release of blue marlin,
white marlin and sailfish. The
past three winners of the event have won by accumulating
points through verifiable releases.
The
tournament also hosts a “tournament-within-a-tournament”
by including a very popular Game Fish Category. This
category has grown in popularity in the past few years and it
is a very serious competition with some strong recognition
going towards the heaviest Wahoo, Tuna and Dolphin caught.
The
dates of the BacardiÒ
Rum Billfish tournament coincide with the height of the Spring
Break season on
Grand Bahama
Island
. This
is an excellent time of the year to come to the
Bahamas
and “thaw out” after the
winter season.
Count Basie Square
at the Port Lucaya Marketplace
is the place to be for music, laughter and plain good times
and the Mardi Gras festivities and St. Patrick’s Day only
add more fun and excitement to the evenings.
The
new Isle of Capri Casino across the street at Westin and
Sheraton at Our Lucaya has been a wonderful partner in the
tournament and adds more entertainment options to the schedule
of activities. Couple
all of this to the availability of over 15 really fine
restaurants, countless bars, pubs and kiosks, 80 shops in the
Marketplace, excellent communications, easy accessibility,
four great hotels and you will easily see why the BacardiÒ
Rum Billfish tournament is once again re-establishing itself
as the one tournament that you must fish in the Bahamas.
