February 4-7, 2004
3rd Leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Championship (2003-2004 Series) at Port Lucaya Marina

WAHOO! WAHOO!
The Newsletter of The Bahamas Wahoo Championship
January 23, 2004

Are you ready? Ready for what, you say! For the Super Bowl, of course!  NO, not THAT Super Bowl- OUR Super Bowl VII of Wahoo Fishing- the Third and Final Leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Championship 2003-2004 series.

We are planning a superb tournament for you and we are really hoping that you will be able to join us at Port Lucaya Marina February 4th to 7th. Asides from the wonderful Welcome dinner that we eat at Port Lucaya Resort, we have planned a cocktail party for you across the street at the new Isle of Capri Casino at Our Lucaya hosted by our new partners in the Wahoo Championship. On Friday the Cocktail party will be at the Harbour Restaurant and Lounge right underneath our offices. Some of you missed this party in November. Do NOT miss it this year. Everyone had a great time in a superb setting.

We are planning another spectacular Awards ceremony across the street at Our Lucaya Resort with a great dinner, music and native entertainment. Please bring a blazer to this event. Let’s dress up a bit for this function and if the wives are coming, you can have them dress up also. We know that they will enjoy doing so! If a crew member forgot to bring his blazer, a nice long-sleeve shirt will be acceptable but let’s try to stay away from t-shirts as much as possible. We have invited the Minister of Tourism for the Bahamas to present the Awards and the Ministry has supported this event by buying two tables! We will have local dignitaries present, as well as members of the press. Those of you that attended last year really enjoyed it! We will work hard to make this year’s event even better!

You will find a copy of the results after two legs of the Championship here and what CLEARLY stands out is that only 1.5 points separate the first and second place boats. The mathematically inclined will tell you that it is still a wide open race for the Overall Bahamas Wahoo Championship because you CAN qualify three more fish during this third and final Leg and only the heaviest SEVEN will count. If you need a clarification on the scoring system you will find it on www.bahamaswahoo.com. Suffice to say that last year the Bahamas Wahoo Championship was decided by the last fish weighed in on the last day. We look forward to an equally interesting finish in February!

Even if you feel that you are not in the hunt for the overall title, please remember that this is a new tournament, with a new boat pool, new set of winners, excellent fishing, great facilities and a staff that is very anxious to make sure that you have a great time with us.

The tournament committee will be back in full force with Sue Graves joining Raul and Allison Ford. Dr. Jay Baldwin will continue with his valuable Wahoo Research project assisted once again by Michelle Green. Kristin Maki from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will also be undertaking biological studies of Wahoo. We expect weigh master “extraordinaire” Bob Hammersla to make a guest appearance.

Eric Dallin and his crew of Saltwater Videos will be on hand for this third and final leg of the Championship. We received numerous positive comments regarding the video production during the first leg in November and we are delighted that they will be back for this tournament.

Give Raul (305) 234-7386 a quick call and let him know that you are coming. Alternatively, call Port Lucaya Marina direct (242) 373-9090 and make your reservation with Karen Pinder. It really makes it so much easier to know how many boats to expect! Thanks! A quick call or e-mail will make us very happy!

We have already mailed you an envelope with Customs and Immigration forms. If you need anything else, please let Raul know right away.

We are ALL looking forward to seeing you in February!

Sincerely,

Raul , Sue, Jay, Michelle, Allison, Kristin, The Hammer
