Wireless Internet Available at Port Lucaya Marina
Port Lucaya, Freeport, Grand Bahama Island – 10th
of April, 2005
Heralding in a new era for Grand Bahama Island and
boating in the Bahamas, Port Lucaya Marina (www.portlucaya.com)
has established a 54MB wireless network with access throughout the
marina, marina basin and around the Port Lucaya Resort & Yacht
Club area. Marina Manager Noel Clarke announced the long-time plans
to install the network, however timing issues arose with the
onslaught of two Hurricanes in September 2004.
"We have desperately wanted to install wireless
internet at Port Lucaya over the past two years but numerous costly
expenditures kept us from doing so until this year" said
Clarke. "Also, we had wanted to install last year but luckily
did not do so before being hit with Hurricanes Francis and
Jeanne."
The system is powered by three Orinico AP-700
wireless access points that are placed strategically throughout the
marina to insure coverage in any slip as well as numerous rooms and
pool areas throughout the Port Lucaya Resort. The three access
points are connected to a high powered Nomadix data switch which
manages the different users. It is powered by a fiber connection
that provides around the clock dedicated high speed internet
connection.
"We decided to give our network its own
dedicated fiber so that the system would not be bogged down by our
internal network’s computer needs." Clarke also points out
that Port Lucaya Marina customers can have fast access to the
internet to do what they need to do without lag time or delay.
"We did not go cheap on this network! Our system is managed so
that every customer (up to 250 users) will have dedicated upload and
download bandwidth."
Port Lucaya’s WiFi went live on the 7th of April.
